I thought I was alone with these kind of thoughts, fantastic vid showcasing what mountain biking is all about: rider, bike, trail. Who cares what one rides or what they look like....
Best part of the vid is that there is not a dirt jump in site. Leave dirt jumps in empty lots, ride the terrain with minimal alteration.
Some good ole fashioned competition will serve everyone in the bike retail industry well. Anyways in my opinion it is over-hyped paranoia.
As with most retailers MEC does somethings well and some things poorly. i.e. if I am looking for a utilitarian pack that gets the job done, is overbuilt and priced well I go to MEC, If I need a specialized pack for a specific use I probably will go somewhere else. I generally find MEC does a good job with the non sexy items like duffels, packs sleeping pads, pack covers, tools, socks etc
In response to another poster, MEC most likely did not get Rocky MTN bikes because they would be way to expensive for the market they are targeting.
Wow!!!! This can't be serious, someone builds a trail on private land is basically told to stop by the landowner and that landowner is that bad guy here? you can't be serious?
There is a lack of respect for others on display here and might be a big reason why landowners are unwilling to work with Mountain bikers.
It is not our god given right to go out in the woods and carve out a trail. Having a mountain bike does not mean you are steward of nature either.
If you want a dirt jump build so bad, build it in your backyard... its not like would be any different than out in the middle of nowhere.
To me the problem is not so much that complicated technical terms are used in the marketing materials, the problem is that the marketing materials do not adequately convey to the user how it will improve their experience.

Too much trick jumping... MTBING has come to the point that skiing is at where you have big mountain skiing and park skiers... you now have mountain bikers and park bikers .... I personally find many of the videos quite bland these days as they focus on riders hitting the same jumps doing the same tricks in different environments. The focus is not where they are riding and the challenge of the natural terrain but the tricks they are doing which can pretty much be done anywhere.
This is just my take and each aspect has its place... I just prefer watching skilled riders negotiate trails that feature the natural terrain as opposed to a set of man made features that can be anywhere and seem to be the same as everywhere else.
for what it is worth I do think the guys doing this stuff have tremendous skill just not for me.
Each to their own.
